Nico Blitz and Jackie Ramirez, co-hosts of the Mexipino Podcast, enjoy a sunny day at the beach with their adorable dog. A perfect moment of joy and relaxation under the clear California sky.
Embracing your culture is a lifelong journey that evolves as you grow and learn. By understanding your heritage, celebrating traditions, and connecting with your community, you can cultivate a deep sense of pride and identity. This journey not only enriches your life but also contributes to the vibrant tapestry of our global society. Nico Blitz and Jackie Ramirez have done this and taken it further than imagined.
They started a podcast specifically for both of their combined cultures: Mexican and Filipino. The Mexipino podcast started in 2021 and has been growing ever since. Since they both work in the entertainment world, it was easy to find engagement with people all over social media and tap into the niche in their community. Nico works as a music producer and DJ around the Los Angeles metro area while Jackie is a radio host for one of the top hip hop stations in LA and works for the Dodgers as an in-station host for games. She handles mostly the social media side of things and contributes to the entertainment between innings.
Jackie and Nico both grew up in Los Angeles where there is a ton of culture surrounding every corner. This prompted them to make a podcast sharing their stories to an even bigger audience. They started a Mexipino podcast embracing their culture and sharing what they have been through whilst growing up in Mexican and Filipino households.
Jackie and Nico celebrate their cultural fusion and growing community with smiles and heart.
Jackie and Nico started dating after meeting at a radio station where they were both working at the time. “This is the first time we have dated outside of our own ethnicities,” said Nico. But they quickly found that they share a lot of similarities in their cultures and decided to embrace that and make it into something that could have never even imagined.
On top of the podcast, they also host Mexipino food fests all over California to support small businesses and also help support their families. Family is very important to both Nico and Jackie as they think of them for every encounter and everything they do. “We think of it as generational wealth and setting our families up for the future,” Jackie stated. Growing this business is not only huge for themselves but for the past and generations to come. Jackie and Nico think with their heart and not their head, making sure the people they love are taken care of as well. They also launched the Mexipino scholarship to help future generations this year.
Nico and Jackie produce a show weekly, whether it is just them on the show talking, bringing in a guest, or just joking around, but they always drop a new episode every 7 days. “People count on us every week.. we are part of someone’s weekly routine,” said Nico and Jackie. Their community outreach is something that is very important to them and they will continue to grow and produce their show while both working full time jobs and spending quality times with their families.
