Fan Day Nation’s own Mikayla Nagl had the privilege of sitting down with Denver Pioneers guard Tommy Bruner, a standout both on and off the court. Bruner, who led the nation in scoring and field-goals made last season, is also the founder and CEO of the non-profit organization Be Different. What began as a simple T-shirt logo has blossomed into a movement dedicated to health, education, and fitness for children and others in need.

“Last year, Be Different expanded into a charity in hopes of providing a better lifestyle including health, education, and fitness for children and others,” Bruner shared. The organization has since made a significant impact, uplifting communities through toy giveaways, food drives, park renovations, reading initiatives, and by supporting young athletes at their games. “They come to my games and support me, so it is only right that I go to theirs,” Bruner added, highlighting the reciprocal nature of his mission.

The inspiration behind Be Different traces back to Bruner's childhood and the influence of his mother. As his biggest supporter and role model, she encouraged him to pursue his dreams and instilled in him the values of hard work and kindness. “She’s always been there for me, supporting even the craziest ideas,” Bruner remarked. It was this unwavering support that fueled his passion for giving back and making a difference.

Bruner's long-term vision for his charity is ambitious—he aims to fund preschools that will provide children with a strong, encouraging foundation. “If I could have one superpower, it would be to financially provide for my charity in order to help kids out and give them the life they deserve,” he said, reflecting on the challenges of funding and the importance of financial support in achieving his goals.

When asked how he manages to balance basketball and running a charity, Bruner's response was grounded in his philosophy of time management. “We all have 24 hours in a day. It’s how you spend it that counts. Plus, I like to stay busy, and I am passionate about what I do, so it doesn’t really feel like work at all,” he explained. This passion, coupled with his dedication, is what drives Bruner to excel both on the court and in his charitable endeavors.

Be Different also receives support from Fan Day Nation, contributing to the charity’s initiatives and helping to expand its reach. Fans and supporters can get involved by purchasing Be Different T-shirts, with all proceeds going directly to the charity. By wearing the logo, you’re not just supporting a brand—you’re contributing to a cause that’s making a tangible difference in the lives of children and communities.

Tommy Bruner may be a star athlete, but his true legacy lies in his efforts to inspire others to stand out and make a difference. Through Be Different, he hopes to continue growing his charity and impacting lives, embodying the very message he set out to promote: to be different is to be extraordinary.
